Imajilan™ has two film departments; one for lower budget, nonunion projects
and one for higher budget, union projects. As a rule, there are more
opportunities for writers in the lower budget film segment.
Imajilan Indy™ generally focuses on low
budget projects ranging from $500k to $12m, and are nonunion projects
that generally do not adhere to guild or union contracts or requirements (but
not always).
Members of guilds
who
wish to work on Imajilan Indy™ projects may be required to sign a waiver of understanding
detailing they are not, or will not be, engaged in work covered by their guild.
Imajilan Pictures™ generally focuses on
mid to high budget projects ranging from $25m to $125m and typically adheres to
all guild contracts and requirements (on a project by project signatory basis).

Indy™ is not a WGA signatory and its projects are not subject to WGA

Online Responses To Your Letter Of
Inquiry
If we do not respond to your inquiry,
it means we are not interested.
Do not resubmit the same works to us
or "bug" us for an answer or you may be placed on our black list of
unprofessional writers and banned from submission for up to 3 years.
For best results, submit only one
script proposal per e-mail.
Third Party Validation For
NonWGA Writers
In
order to submit a "letter of inquiry" to us and have it read by
us, you should have at least one of the following (and you should
provide evidence of such in your initial inquiry or you will likely be passed):
-
Industry recognized person
recommending your work/talents.
-
Writers Guild of America (WGA)
member recommending your work/talents.
-
Writing professor or known
consultant in the industry recommending your work/talent.
-
Reputable script contest winner
or top runner up (top 10).
-
Copy of your script coverage from
a reputable company suggesting you have a solid script.
-
Rare: a well known acting talent
or director who has already agreed to attach to your script.
Checklist - Submitting Your Materials To Us (Read Carefully)
If
you have been officially asked by us (in writing) to submit written or creative works or
materials in any form to us, include the following:
Warning, Read Carefully...
 |
DO NOT SEND UNSOLICITED materials of any kind--it all
goes bye bye so why waste your time and money! |
 |
DO NOT SEND
any
materials without a SIGNED standard
release form---otherwise your materials will be immediately
tossed into the trash bin without being reviewed. You will not be notified if
this happens! |
 |
DO NOT
E-MAIL YOUR SUBMISSION. We do not accept PDF submissions or any
kind for both legal and practical issues (our readers prefer to work off
paper). |
 |
DO NOT
E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS of any kind--we do not open attachments of any kind. |
 |
DO NOT SEND
UPS / FED EX packages. Make sure your mail carrier delivers to a US Post Office
Box or your item will be returned. |
 |
DO NOT SEND
PACKAGES THAT MUST BE SIGNED FOR (i.e. Certified Mail)--we do not sign for packages of any kind
due to issues of time. If you want package tracking, pay for it, but do not
request a signature or your package will be returned to you unopened. |
 |
WARNING:
Make sure your release form has your real name and address because that information is used to notify you of results.
Using false information will get you permanently blacklisted. |
 |
Remove the covers from your
script and use two brads to bind it only. |
 |
Make sure the first page of your
script has the title, your name, and contact information. |
 |
Hand write the genre on the first
page of
your script (or fly sheet). |
 |
Enclose a full length copy of the letter or
e-mail that we sent you to officially request your materials. |
 | Enclose a signed Imajilan™
Submission Release form
(make sure you sign and date it and fill it out completely). If there are
two or more writers make sure everyone signs it. |
 |
Enclose a full copy of the
materials requested (make sure it is a copy because you will not get it
back). |
 |
Make sure the mailing company you
use to deliver to us will deliver directly to a US Post Office Box (not UPS/FED EX,
etc.). |
Additional Aspects
 |
You DO NOT need to e-mail us and
let us know you dropped your script in the mail. We will know when we get
it. |
 |
We will NOT let you know we have received
your submission in the mail, etc. so we recommend you use some sort of
package tracking that does NOT involve us having to sign for it (WE DO NOT
SIGN FOR SUBMISSION MATERIALS--THEY WILL BE RETURNED by your carrier so
watch out! If you want package delivery confirmation, ask your mail
service company how to get it without us having to sign for it. |
 |
TIP: Best and least expensive mailing
method we believe is the US Postal Service flat fee mailer pack or "media mail"
options. |
 |
TIP2: Do your best work. If we
request your materials, you generally have up to 6 weeks to submit to us
after that so take your time and send us your very best effort. |
General
Aspects
Agents
Welcome
We accept "letters of
inquiry" from any known literary agency (or attorney rep.).
Script
Decision Policy
We review hundreds of scripts and it
takes months in many cases to get to your materials so be patient. After
we review your materials, we will contact you by e-mail and let you know our
findings one way or the other. There is no need to ever send us an inquiry until then--we
ordered your material and we will professionally review it in the order it was
received so please wait your turn.
Script Potential Policy
In some cases, we do see strong
project potential and your script may be placed into a secondary decision cycle
to see if the producer is willing to help you develop the script further to make
it ready for production (most scripts that come to us rarely come perfectly
ready for commercial application and often need some sort of enhancement to
ensure success--and especially funding. If your script is sent to secondary, it
will take us a little longer to get back to you. We generally do not notify
the writer this is the case. You will be contacted at some point to discuss
options.
In some cases, we may offer Reader's
Notes to the writer and allow the writer the opportunity to revise their work
and then resubmit a newer version incorporating such changes--however, such
requests or suggestions do not obligate us or you in any way.
WARNING - No Hyphen
Deals Generally Accepted
Let's say you're a producer or
an actor and a writer (actor-writer), etc., does this help the deal? The answer is it
does not. When we look at scripts and negotiate for their rights, we treat them as
a stand alone deal. We do not attach other aspects to the script deal. In other
words, unless you're a well known top talent, do not ask us to put you in the film
(or to direct it, etc.) in exchange for the script rights,
etc.--that's not a deal we will likely make for a number of reasons. The deal is for the script
only--period--so please do not waste our time if you have intentions otherwise.
Does this mean such hyphens are not
possible? No. If you let your intentions or desires known, we may investigate
your other attributes and invite you to also work in a hyphen capacity (i.e.
also as a line producer or direct or actor, etc.) but this is not part of the
script deal.
Option
Policies and Guidelines
As a general rule, we are a
commercial production house. We do not do film as art here, but film for profit.
And we do not option projects unless we fully intend to produce them ourselves.
Generally speaking, if we option your script, we fully intend to make it
into a film.
As a policy, all Imajilan
Pictures™ writers are paid either WGA minimums for options,
or, in some cases, given a higher percentage of the budget or the potential for
profit participation in lieu of option monies. Each project and its risks are
calculated before offers of any kind are made.
As a policy, all Imajilan Indy™
writers are paid in full, based on a straight percentage of the budget, on the
first day of filming (all re-writes or polishes are included in the compensation
formula). Only a token option payment is made to meet basic legal
requirements (usually less than $100) and the writer is not paid upfront for
re-writes or polishes. This is largely due to the fact that we must invest a great deal of expense in
order to prepare a project that statistically offers little chance of profitability--risk
formulas dictate that at-risk funds, such as option monies, thus be eliminated. However, in some cases, we will purchase a script outright, but this is
rare. Here, the pay-off for the writer is to get experience and get the film
made and receive formal credit that is used to promote one's writing career. In
other words, this is a writer's key proving grounds.
Once you have success here, you are
then afforded more opportunity to move up into higher budgeted projects with
higher pay and option money potentials, such as are available at Imajilan
Pictures™).
